CELEBRATION
Our program celebrates homeless and low-income women’s pregnancies with Baby Showers. We strive to bring joy to women through celebratory Baby Showers, at a time in which most women in their position are overwhelmed with anxiety about the daunting task ahead – motherhood while living in poverty. At these Baby Showers, women are provided with beautifully wrapped gifts, baby clothing, and baby care products to help them meet their baby’s basic needs. Our Baby Showers celebrate each woman’s passage into motherhood and the new beautiful life to come.
EDUCATION
The Baby Shower Foundation provides mothers-to-be with education and information about the following:
- Infant Care
- Breastfeeding
- Baby CPR
- Childbirth
- Baby Nutritional Care
- Positive Parenting Skills
- Resume Writing Skills
- Career Counseling
- Money Management
- Decision Making
- Fostering Healthy Relationships/Exiting Abusive Relationships
- Self-Esteem Building Exercises
Each woman is provided with educational materials, worksheets, and pamphlets to help her retain the information she has learned. Women are given the opportunity to have one-on-one mentoring sessions before and after their Baby Showers to review the basics of infant care so that they feel better prepared for motherhood. Additionally, women are provided with ongoing support from The Baby Shower Foundation. Our staff is available to read Baby Shower recipients’ resumes, provide career counseling, and assist them in their job search after the delivery of their baby. We are also available to provide breastfeeding, infant care, and parenting consultations after their baby’s birth.
